Since computers have existed, there has been a need for added accessories such as keyboards, mice, and a
PCMCIA reader. Exceptions are found with the
embedded computer. Accessories were not needed, as it was only designed for one task. Usually found on laptops, PCMCIA slots allow you to add in extra USB ports, sound cards, or even hard drive controllers. However, within the last few years major computer suppliers like Dell and Apple have been migrating to newer technology such as Express Card.
